The St. Louis Rams hope for better luck at QB in 2012

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Rams Chatter,Needs to Step Up by admin on Friday 6 January 2012 at 6:36 pm

The St. Louis Rams had to use four QBs in 2011 due to injuries.  They hope that isn’t the case in 2012.  24-year old Sam Bradford took a step back due to the injuries at WR and his own injuries.  The Rams were only 1-9 in games started by Bradford last year.  He played in 10 games (all starts) for the Rams last year and he completed 191 of 357 passes (53.5%) for 2,164 yards with 6 TD passes and 6 INTs (70.5 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 18 times for 26 yards (1.4 ypc) last year.  Bradford has now played in 26 games (all starts) in his first two years with the Rams and he has completed 545 of 947 passes (57.6%) for 5,676 yards with 24 TD passes and 21 INTs (74.2 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 45 times for 89 yards (2.0 ypc) with 1 TD run so far in his NFL career.  The Rams are now 8-18 (30.8%) in games started at QB by Bradford.  They hope he steps up in 2012.

34-year old A.J. Feeley started 3 games at QB before his season essentially ended due to injury.  The Rams were 1-2 in Feeley’s three starts as he was under center when they shocked the Saints in St. Louis.  Feeley played in 5 games (3 starts) for the Rams in 2011 and he completed 53 of 97 passes (54.6%) for 548 yards with 1 TD pass and 2 INTs (66.0 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 3 times for 4 yards (1.3 ypc) last year.  Feeley has now played in 28 games (18 starts) in his NFL career and he has completed 425 of 762 passes (55.8%) for 4,618 yards with 28 TD passes and 31 INTs (69.1 QB Rating).  He also has carried the ball 37 times for 49 yards (1.3 ypc) with 1 TD run in his NFL career so far.  Feeley is 8-10 (44.4%) as a starting QB during his NFL career.

28-year old Kellen Clemens started the last three games of the year, all losses.  Clemens played in 3 games (all starts) for the Rams last year and he completed 48 of 91 passes (52.7%) for 546 yards with 2 TD passes and 1 INT (73.8 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 6 times for 37 yards (6.2 ypc) with 1 TD run last year.  Clemens has now played in 28 games (12 starts) in his NFL career and he has completed 195 of 375 passes (52%) for 2,232 yards with 7 TD passes and 12 INTs (63.1 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 52 times for 165 yards (3.2 ypc) with 3 TD runs so far in his NFL career.  Clemens is now 4-8 (33.3%) as a starting QB in the NFL.

27-year old Tom Brandstater played in the season finale for the Rams after Kellen Clemens was injured.  He threw two incomplete passes in that game which was his NFL debut.

The St. Louis Rams likely lose Jacob Bell for the rest of the year

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Rams Chatter,Injury Reports,Needs to Step Up by admin on Tuesday 6 December 2011 at 3:05 am

The St. Louis Rams have likely lost 30-year old LG Jacob Bell for the rest of the year due to a Grade 2 MCL sprain.  He played in 12 games (all starts) for the Rams this year.  He has now played in 54 games (all starts) in his first four years with the Rams.  32-year old Tony Wragge will likely replace Bell in the starting lineup.  Wragge has played in 11 games (4 starts) for the Rams so far this year.  He has now played in 78 games (19 starts) in his first 8 years in the NFL.  This injury just further depletes the offensive line of the Rams.

The St. Louis Rams need Sam Bradford to step up

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Rams Chatter,Needs to Step Up by admin on Wednesday 23 November 2011 at 9:41 pm

24-year old QB Sam Bradford is having a rough second season in the NFL.  He has played in 8 games for the Rams so far this year and he has completed 162 of 297 passes (54.5%) for 1,768 yards with 5 TD passes and 5 INTs (70.9 QB Rating).  He also has carried the ball 16 times for 27 yards (1.7 ypc) so far this year.  Bradford has been under duress this year as he has been sacked 31 times already.  It isn’t going to get any better as the Rams have suffered a lot of injuries this year along the offensive line.  With that in mind, 34-year old backup QB A.J. Feeley better be ready to go.  Feeley has played in 4 games for the Rams so far this year and he has completed 41 of 75 passes (54.7%) for 392 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 INT (68.3 QB Rating).  He has also carried the ball 3 times for 4 yards (1.3 ypc) so far this year.  He has already been sacked six times this year.

The St. Louis Rams lose OT Mark LeVoir for a while

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking News,Front Page,General Rams Chatter,Injury Reports,Needs to Step Up by admin on Tuesday 22 November 2011 at 2:10 am

The Rams will be without 29-year old OT Mark LeVoir for the next 2-4 weeks due to a strained pectoral muscle.  LeVoir has played in 4 games (1 start) for the Rams this year.  He was replacing starting LT Rodger Saffold who is done for the year due to injury.  23-year old undrafted rookie Kevin Hughes out of Southeastern Louisiana is likely to get his first NFL start this weekend against the Cardinals.  He has only played in 1 game (0 starts) so far this year for the Rams.  The Rams might want to bring in a veteran tackle with some experience so that Sam Bradford doesn’t get killed in the pocket.

The St. Louis Rams lose OT Rodger Saffold on I.R.

The Rams have placed 23-year old starting LT Rodger Saffold on the Injured Reserve List ending his season due to a torn pectoral muscle.  He was injured in practice this week.  Saffold played in 9 games (all starts) for the Rams this year.  He has now played in 25 games (all starts) in his first two years in the NFL.  29-year old Mark LeVoir will take over as the starting LT for the Rams going forward.  He has played in 3 games (0 starts) for the Rams so far this year.  LeVoir has now played in 38 games (3 starts) in his first six years in the NFL.  Sam Bradford is likely going to get hit pretty hard in the back a few more times a game without Saffold on the blind side.

Steve Spagnuolo is likely on the hot seat with the St. Louis Rams

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Rams Chatter,Needs to Step Up by admin on Tuesday 8 November 2011 at 5:39 pm

The Rams have been pretty awful this year and a large amount of the blame will likely be placed on 51-year old head coach Steve Spagnuolo.  The Rams are 1-7 on the season and they have been pushed around until the last two weeks.  The Rams are likely going to have to finished strongly in the second half to save Spagnuolo’s job.  The Rams are only 9-31 (22.5%) in Spagnuolo’s first three years in charge of the Rams, and that’s nowhere near good enough to get the job done.

The St. Louis Rams lose Greg Salas for the rest of the season

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking News,Front Page,General Rams Chatter,Injury Reports,Needs to Step Up,The Draft Report by admin on Tuesday 8 November 2011 at 5:33 pm

The St. Louis Rams have lost 23-year old WR Greg Salas for the rest of the season due to a fractured left fibula.  Salas played in six games for the Rams as a rookie this year and he caught 27 passes for 264 yards (9.8 avg).  The Rams are going to give 23-year old rookie Austin Pettis the first shot to replace Salas in the slot.  Pettis has played in six games so far this year and he has caught 11 passes for 90 yards (8.2 avg).  The Rams hope Pettis is up to the challenge as Sam Bradford needs all of the help he can get.

The St. Louis Rams need more out of the return game

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Rams Chatter,Needs to Step Up by admin on Saturday 5 November 2011 at 5:14 pm

The St. Louis Rams’ return game has been pathetic so far this year and it’s not helping set up the offense with good starting position.  RB Quinn Porter was signed recently off the Browns’ practice squad and he has been returning the kickoffs ever since.  He has returned 12 kickoffs for 257 yards (21.4 avg) and 1 punt return for 1 yard so far this year.  RB Jerious Norwood has been solid on kickoff returns this year for the Rams with 6 of them for 156 yards (26.0 avg).  Austin Pettis (1 return for 19 yards) and Eugene Sims (1 return for 10 yards) have also pitched in for the Rams on kickoff returns.  Rookie WRs Austin Pettis (6 punt returns, 65 yards, 10.8 avg) and Greg Salas (2 punt returns, 29 yards, 14.5 avg) have done well for the Rams this year on punt returns.  Quinn Porter (1 punt return for 1 yard) and Danny Amendola (1 punt return for 0 yards) have not done much on punt returns.  The Rams need these guys to step up their games, and soon!

The St. Louis Rams need more out of the WRs

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Rams Chatter,Needs to Step Up by admin on Thursday 27 October 2011 at 2:04 pm

The Rams recently traded for Brandon Lloyd to help improve the Rams’ play at WR.  He stepped right in last weekend and caught 6 passes for 74 yards (12.3 avg).  He is likely to be the Rams’ #1 WR going forward.  Danario Alexander can really play when he’s healthy, but that doesn’t happen much.  He has caught 16 passes for 296 yards (18.5 avg) with 1 TD grab as he has a knack for getting down the field.  Brandon Gibson has caught 17 passes for 214 yards (12.6 avg) with 1 TD grab, but the Rams always expected much more out of him than he has produced.  Rookies Greg Salas (15 rec, 158 yards, 10.5 avg) and Austin Pettis (6 rec, 40 yards, 6.7 avg) as they have not produced the way the Rams thought they would when they drafted them last April.  The Rams’ WRs need to step up, plain and simple.

The St. Louis Rams need Sam Bradford to step up

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Rams Chatter,Needs to Step Up by admin on Wednesday 12 October 2011 at 11:04 pm

The Rams need 23-year old QB Sam Bradford to step up as he has been pretty lousy so far this year.  He has played in four games for the Rams so far this year and he has completed 75 of 151 passes (49.7%) for 849 yards with 3 TD passes and 1 INT (70.8 QB Rating).  He has also carried the ball 7 times for 22 yards (3.1 ypc) so far this year.  Maybe the extra week of practice during the bye will have the offense ready for the challenge of dealing with the Packers at Lambeau Field this weekend.
