The St. Louis Rams sign safety Clinton Hart

The Rams have signed 32-year old strong safety Clinton Hart.  Hart played in 4 games earlier this season with the Chargers in which he made 16 tackles.  Hart has now played in 96 games in his 7-year NFL career and he has made 333 tackles, defensed 37 passes, has 2 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and he has 10 interceptions (2 of which he has returned for a TD).  The Rams should just put him right into the starting line-up in the place of the injured O.J. Atowge.

The St. Louis Rams lose O.J. Atogwe for the year

The Rams have lost starting safety O.J. Atogwe for the rest of the year due to a torn labrum and a dislocated shoulder.  Atogwe played in all 12 games for the Rams this season and he had 74 tackles, 3 tackles for a loss, 1 sack, 3 passes defensed and 2 interceptions.  It will be interesting to see if the Rams bring back the 28-year old Atogwe next season as he will become a free agent at the end of the year.  Atogwe has played in 72 games in his 5 years with the Rams and he has made 320 tackles, defensed 33 passes, forced 14 fumbles, has 2 sacks and he has intercepted 19 passes (one returned for a TD).  The Rams would be smart to bring back Atogwe next season and beyond and they will miss him the rest of this year.

St. Louis Rams 9, Chicago Bears 17

Kyle Boler was awful for the St. Louis Rams (1-11) and they lost an ugly one to the Chicago Bears (5-7).  Boler could not get anything going in the passing game and finished with only 113 yards and interception on 17/33 passes.  Boler made a Bears’ defense that has been struggling look very good.  Steven Jackson was the only real offense the Rams could get, as he rushed for 112 yards on 28 carries but failed to reach the endzone.  The only points the Rams could get was from kicker Josh Brown, who hit three field goals from 20, 48, and 50 yards.

The Rams defense actually played pretty well in this one.  They failed to do what almost every team has been doing to the Bears, and that is intercept Bears’ quarterback Jay Cutler.  Cutler played very conservatively in this one though, going 8/17 for 143 yards and 1 touchdown.  They let Bears’ running back Matt Forte make too big of an impact.  Forte has been pretty bad all year and the Rams let him rush for 92 yards and a touchdown.  Overall the Rams defense did a pretty good job, holding the Bears to only 17 points and 248 total yards.  They just didn’t get enough from their offense.

St. Louis Rams at Chicago Bears preview

Blogged under Bloglockers, If I Were a Betting Man, This Week's Matchup Report, General Rams Chatter by Andrew on Friday 4 December 2009 at 2:40 pm

The St. Louis Rams (1-10) are on the road against the Chicago Bears (4-7) Sunday.  The Bears have been playing awful as of late and have lost four straight games.  Unfortunately for the Rams, the Bears are still a better team than them.  However, if the Rams defense can rattle Jay Cutler like many other teams have done, they can get themselves a lot of turnovers.  The Bears offensive line is pretty weak, so they may have some opportunities to get to Cutler.  Also, the Bears running game has been nearly non-existent, so stopping Matt Forte may not be too difficult of a task.

The Rams offense will be relying heavily on Steven Jackson, who has been the only bright spot for them all year.  Jackson has a bad back though, so he may not be as effective as usual.  The Bears do give up 126 rushing yards per game, so Jackson will probably have a good day despite his back.  Still, this Rams team is not on the same level as most other NFL teams and the Bears will most likely win convincingly.

FINAL SCORE PREDICTION:  St. Louis Rams 14, Chicago Bears 28

Danny Amendola is really playing well for the St. Louis Rams

24-year old WR/PR/KR Danny Amendola has been quite a find for the Rams this season.  He has played in 9 games in which he has caught 26 passes for 244 yards (9.4 avg) this year.  He has really helped out on special teams for the Rams this season as he has returned 16 punts for 130 yards (8.1 avg) and 39 kickoffs for 951 yards (24.4 avg).  So in his nine games with the Rams this year, Amendola is averaging 147.2 all-purpose yards per game and that’s pretty darn impressive.
