The Rams won the battle of the backup QBs on Friday Night.  Kyle Boller played pretty well in this game completing 14 of 20 passes for 96 yards with 1 TD pass.  Boller also carried the ball 2 times for 16 yards (8.0 ypc) in this game.  Brock Berlin didn’t play too well as he completed 2 of 5 passes for 21 yards.  Keith Null didn’t show much at the end of the game completing only 1 of 4 passes for 24 yards.  Samkon Gado led the Rams on the ground with 33 yards rushing on six carries (5.5 ypc) with 1 TD run.  He also caught a 2-yard TD pass.  WR Laurent Robinson led the way for the Rams in the air in this game with 3 receptions for 20 yards (6.7 ypc).  The Rams finished up with only 243 yards of offense in this game (102 rushing, 141 passing).

Safety James Butler had a huge game for the Rams as he finished with six tackles, a sack and he returned a fumble recovery 73 yards for a TD.  DE C.J. Ah You (6 tackles, sack) and linebacker James Laurinaitis (6 tackles) each pitched in on defense.  The Bengals finished this game with 312 total yards on offense (141 rushing, 171 passing).  The Rams’ special teams didn’t look too good in this game however as Bengals’ WR Quan Crosby returned a punt 49 yards for a TD.

The Rams fell behind 14-3 at the half and then tried to play catch up ball before falling short.  Kyle Boller started this game at QB and he completed 9 of 16 passes for 91 yards.  He also carried the ball 1 time for 11 yards.  Brock Berlin followed Boller in the game and he was efficient completing 5 of 8 passes for 71 yards with 1 TD pass.  Keith Null finished the game and he didn’t look too good completing 6 of 9 passes for 56 yards with a pickoff.  Kenneth Darby led the way in the running game for the Rams in this game with 30 yards on 7 carries (4.3 ypc).  Laurent Robinson led the way in the passing game for the Rams with 5 catches for 65 yards (13.0 avg).  Derek Stanley pitched in with 2 grabs for 32 yards (16.0 avg) including a TD.  The Rams only rushed for 79 yards (2.6 ypc) in this game but they did show some life in the passing game with 204 yards.

Linebacker David Vobora and safety Oshiomogho Atogwe each led the Rams’ defense in this game with six tackles apiece.  The Falcons rushed for 162 yards (5.6 ypc) and passed for 169 yards in this game.  The Rams have some work to do on defense before the regular season starts.

The St. Louis Rams lose rookie WR Brooks Foster

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Breaking News, Injury Reports, General Rams Chatter by admin on Saturday 29 August 2009 at 9:27 am

The Rams have lost rookie WR Brooks Foster for the next 6-8 weeks due to surgery on his foot.  He was a fifth round pick out of North Carolina.  This really hurts Foster as the Rams are weak at WR and he would have had a chance to earn a decent role if healthy.

UPDATE:  The Rams have placed Brooks Foster on the Injured Reserve List ending his rookie season.

The St. Louis Rams lose Marc Bulger

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Breaking News, Injury Reports, General Rams Chatter by admin on Monday 24 August 2009 at 10:08 pm

The Rams will be without Marc Bulger for at least the next two weeks with a fractured right pinkie.  This is a bad omen for the Rams as they were hoping to keep Bulger healthy this season.  Kyle Boller and Brock Berlin will get a lot of playing time while Bulger is out.  But, they better hope they don’t have to go into the season with Kyle Boller as the starter as he has never been that capable in that role.

St. Louis Rams 23, New York Jets 20

The Rams won this game in the treches as they pushed the Jets around a little bit.  Marc Bulger completed all four of his pass attempts for 77 yards.  Kyle Boller didn’t look too good against the Jets completing only 3 of 9 passes for 25 yards.  Brock Berlin was effective on dinks and dunks completing 6 of 8 passes for 27 yards.  But, 4th string QB Keith Null was the star of this game as he completed both of his pass attempts for 16 yards including the game winning TD toss to WR Sean Walker.  Samkon Gado was a beast on the ground for the Rams in this game rushing for 93 yards on 6 carries (15.5 ypc) with a TD run (77-yarder).  Antonio Pittman was also solid rushing for 36 yards on 4 carries (9.0 ypc) in this game.  WR Laurent Robinson led the way for the Rams’ in receiving yards in this game with 52 on two catches (26.0 avg).  Sean Walker caught 2 passes for 18 yards in this game including the game winning TD.  The Rams kept it simple on offense in this game rushing for 193 yards on 29 carries (6.7 ypc).  They only threw for 113 yards but that doesn’t matter when you win the game.

Linebacker Chris Chamberlain led a so-so effort from the Rams’ defense with 5 tackles.  The Jets rolled up 340 yards (102 rushing, 238 passing) in this game so the Rams still have a lot to work on before the regular season starts.  Still, a win is a win and this was a good start to the pre-season for the Rams.
