The St. Louis Rams made the safe move in selecting offensive tackle Jason Smith who should help anchor the offensive line for year to come. Smith is 6′4″, 305 pounds and he’s fast for his size running a 4.9 40. Part of the reason for his speed was that he played TE as a freshman for Baylor. Smith played in 42 games (39 starts) in his 4-year career at Baylor. This was a excellent pick for the Rams.
The Rams have acquired 23-year old WR Laurent Robinson from the Falcons. In return for Robinson the Rams have agreed to swap picks in the 5th and 6th rounds with the Falcons. This was a great move for the Rams as Robinson could be good enough to start for them in 2009. Robinson played in only 6 games for the Falcons last season and he caught 5 passes for 52 yards (10.4 avg). Robinson has now played in 21 games in his NFL career and he has caught 42 passes for 489 yards (11.6 avg) with 1 TD grab.
The Rams have signed 27-year old QB Kyle Boller to back up Marc Bulger next season. Boller did not play last season due to injury. He has played in 53 games in his NFL career and he has completed 746 of 1,311 passes (56.9%) for 7,846 yards with 45 TD passes and 44 interceptions (71.9 QB Rating). He also has carried the ball 147 times for 440 yards (3.0 ypc) with 2 TD runs. This was a good signing for the Rams as they couldn’t afford to go into the 2009 season with either Brock Berlin or Jeff Otis as the #2 QB.
The Rams have signed 26-year old TE Billy Bajema. Bajema played in all 16 games for the 49ers last season and he caught 2 passes for 34 yards (17.0 avg). Bajema has now played in 61 games in his NFL career and he has caught 7 passes for 88 yards (12.6 avg). He is more of a run blocker than receiver so he should fit into what the Rams want to do in 2009.
