2. (33) Donnie Avery, WR

The Rams might have made a mistake here as they drafted a receiver that doesn’t catch the ball that well.  But, he has awesome speed as he runs a 4.39 40 and that makes up a little bit for his size as he is only 5′11″, 186 pounds.  The Rams felt a need to replace the speed of Isaac Bruce but they may have been better off getting a bigger receiver and many of those were still on the board when the Rams picked in the 2nd round.  Avery played in 50 games (44 starts) at Houston and he caught 210 passes for 3,289 yards (15.7 avg) with 19 TD grabs.  If Avery gets to return some kickoffs for the Rams this pick might be justified.

1. (2) Chris Long, DE

The Rams decided that drafting DE Chris Long was the way to go in the first round.  He will likely start at RDE right next to last year’s #1 pick (DT Adam Carriker) to give the Rams a very talented side of the defense.  Long plays all out, all of the time.  His only weakness is that he sometimes gets engulfed by huge DTs in the running game.  Long is 6′3″, 274 pounds and he runs a 4.75 40 which is impressive for a player his size.  He also has great bloodlines as Hall of Fame DE Howie Long is his father and no doubt will show him a few tricks.  Long played in 42 games (37 starts) at Virginia and he made 183 tackles, 43 tackles for a loss, had 22 sacks, batted down 15 passes and forced 3 fumbles.  This was an outstanding pick by the Rams.
