Arizona Cardinals 34, St. Louis Rams 31
The Rams gave everything they had yesterday and they still fell a tad short. Gus Frerotte completed 24 of 43 passes for 262 yards with 3 TD passes and 3 interceptions, but one of the INTs was in the 4th quarter and it was returned for a TD. Rookie RB Brian Leonard had an outstanding game as he carried the ball 18 times for 102 yards (5.7 ypc) and he also caught 5 passes for 33 yards (6.6 avg). Travis Minor also pitched in with 3 carries for 12 yards (4.0 ypc) and he also caught 5 passes for 31 yards (6.2 avg). Torry Holt had one of his better games of the season as he caught 5 passes for 89 yards (17.8 avg) with a TD grab. Randy McMichael (3 rec, 45 yards) and Drew Bennett (2 rec, 32 yards) each caught a TD pass. The Rams finished up with 123 yards rushing on 23 carries (5.3 ypc) and they also completed 24 of 43 passes for 252 yards.
The defense didn’t play too well for the Rams but two players were outstanding. Linebacker Will Witherspoon had 14 tackles and a sack and cornerback Fakhir Brown added 9 tackles and 2 interceptions with inspired efforts. The Cardinals finished up with 102 yards on 31 carries (3.3 ypc) and they also completed 21 of 41 passes for 281 yards.
