St. Louis Rams vs. Seattle Seahawks

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Rams Chatter,This Week's Matchup Report by dawgpounded on Friday 19 October 2007 at 10:22 pm

The Rams are the worst team in the NFL right now.  They are 0-6 on the season and they are especially awful on the road.  In three road games this season the Rams have been outscored 81-13!  The Seahawks started the season 3-1 but they’ve lost two in a row and they looked bad doing it as they have been outscored 49-17 in those games.

The Rams are going to start Marc Bulger at QB and they are hoping that he can provide a spark for the offense.  Torry Holt (32 rec, 384 yards, 3 TDs) has always had big games against the Seahawks and he might be able to again if the Rams can keep the Seahawks out of their backfield.  That will be easier said than done as LB Julian Peterson already has 6 sacks on the season.  The Rams would like to establish a running game with Brian Leonard (199 yards rushing) and it could work against a Seahawks defense that is allowing 116.5 yards rushing per game this season.

The Seahawks will try to get Shaun Alexander (413 yards rushing, 3.6 ypc) back on track against a Rams defense that is allowing 134.5 yards rushing per game and 4.2 yards per carry so far this season.  Look for Matt Hasselbeck to keep the passing game short to Bobby Engram, Nate Burleson and Ben Obomanu to off set their offensive line which has allowed 15 sacks already this season.

PREDICTION:  The Seahawks will take advantage of the Rams inability to play on the road.  SEAHAWKS 27, RAMS 10.

The St. Louis Rams have signed WR Travis Taylor

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking News,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Rams Chatter by dawgpounded on Wednesday 17 October 2007 at 9:36 pm

The Rams have signed WR Travis Taylor to a 1-year contract.  Taylor was one of the last cuts by the Raiders before the season started but the Rams need bodies and Taylor at least has a lot of experience.  Taylor has played in 101 games (90 starts) in his NFL career and he has caught 311 passes for 4,013 yards (12.9 avg) with 22 TD catches.  He also has carried the football 32 times for 232 yards (7.2 ypc).

Baltimore Ravens 22, St. Louis Rams 3

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps,General Rams Chatter by dawgpounded on Sunday 14 October 2007 at 10:06 pm

The Rams looked simply awful on offense today.  Gus Frerotte had the worst game in recent memory for the Rams as he completed 19 of 36 passes for 208 yards with 0 TD passes and 5 interceptions!  Brian Leonard couldn’t find any running room against the Ravens as he carried the ball 12 times for 18 yards (1.5 ypc) and he also caught 3 passes for 23 yards (7.7 avg).  Travis Minor looked much better then Leonard did as he carried the ball 7 times for 40 yards (5.7 ypc) and he also caught 1 pass for 5 yards.  Marques Hagans led Rams’ receivers with 5 grabs for 74 yards (14.8 avg) and Torry Holt added 4 catches for 33 yards (8.3 avg).  The Rams finished up with 67 yards rushing on 27 carries (2.5 ypc) and they completed 19 of 36 passes for 197 yards.

The Rams defense played well and they were led by linebacker Pisa Tinoisamoa who had 6 tackles and a interception.  The Rams held the Ravens to 77 yards rushing on 31 carries (2.5 ypc) and they completed 18 of 30 passes for 171 yards.

St. Louis Rams vs. Baltimore Ravens

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Rams Chatter,This Week's Matchup Report by dawgpounded on Thursday 11 October 2007 at 8:08 pm

The Rams played their best game of the season last year but they still fell short while the Ravens barely got by in San Francisco against the Niners.

The Rams have really been awful on the road as they are 0-2 and they’ve been outscored 59-10 in those games.  But, the Rams finally showed some life last week against the Cardinals and they hope to repeat the effort in a win this week.  The Rams will likely try to air it out against the Ravens because the Ravens only allow 66.6 yards rushing per game and 2.9 yards per carry so far this season.  So it would be hard for rookie RB Brian Leonard to get his yards this week despite playing well for the Rams so far this season.  Look for the Rams to spread the ball around to a few receivers as long as Gus Frerotte gets time to throw the ball.  Torry Holt (28 rec, 351 yards, 3 TDs), Drew Bennett (8 rec, 94 yards, TD) and TE Randy McMichael (12 rec, 146 yards, TD) might all find open spaces in the Ravens’ secondary which is a tad overrated.

The Ravens will likely attack the soft run defense of the Rams with a steady dose of Willis McGahee (464 yards rushing, 4.5 ypc).  After all, the Rams are allowing 146.0 yards rushing per game and 4.5 yards per carry this season.  The Ravens might throw the ball a little deeper than usual this week as the Rams don’t have a big time pass rush.  Look for McNair to throw more to his WRs than usual this week.  Derrick Mason (44 rec, 372 yards, TD), Demetrius Williams (16 rec, 222 yards) and Mark Clayton (10 rec, 81 yards) all could have good weeks against a Rams defense that is allowing 210.0 yards passing per game.

PREDICTION:  Look for the Ravens to win this football game but no way are they covering an 11 point spread.

The St. Louis Rams sign a couple of players

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking News,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Rams Chatter by dawgpounded on Wednesday 10 October 2007 at 7:43 am

The Rams have signed WR/KR Brandon Williams and safety Bhawoh Jue.  Williams will likely return punts for a little while as Dante Hall is banged up right now.  Williams has returned 5 punts for 32 yards (6.4 avg) this season for the 49ers.  He is not a gamebreaker but the Rams just hope he doesn’t make any mistakes.  Williams has now played 16 games in his NFL career and he has returned 27 punts for 179 yards (6.6 avg).  He also has returned 16 kickoffs for 380 yards (23.8 avg) in his career.  Jue might get some playing time right away for the Rams also as he has a lot of experience.  He played in 12 games (2 starts) for the Chargers last season and he made 14 tackles and defended 5 passes.  Jue has played in 77 games in his NFL career (27 starts) and he made 181 tackles, has 1.5 sacks, defensed 19 passes and has 6 interceptions.

The St. Louis Rams place two players on the Injured Reserve List

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking News,Front Page,General Rams Chatter,Injury Reports by dawgpounded on Tuesday 9 October 2007 at 11:12 am

The Rams have placed OT/G Adam Goldberg and reserve strong safety Jerome Carter on the Injured Reserve List ending their seasons.  Goldberg has a torn left MCL and he could have returned by week #10 but the Rams decided to play him on I.R. so that they could use his roster spot.  Strong safety Jerome Carter will miss the rest of the season with a fractured foot as he finishes the season with 2 tackles.

Arizona Cardinals 34, St. Louis Rams 31

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps,General Rams Chatter by dawgpounded on Monday 8 October 2007 at 8:56 pm

The Rams gave everything they had yesterday and they still fell a tad short.  Gus Frerotte completed 24 of 43 passes for 262 yards with 3 TD passes and 3 interceptions, but one of the INTs was in the 4th quarter and it was returned for a TD.  Rookie RB Brian Leonard had an outstanding game as he carried the ball 18 times for 102 yards (5.7 ypc) and he also caught 5 passes for 33 yards (6.6 avg).  Travis Minor also pitched in with 3 carries for 12 yards (4.0 ypc) and he also caught 5 passes for 31 yards (6.2 avg).  Torry Holt had one of his better games of the season as he caught 5 passes for 89 yards (17.8 avg) with a TD grab.  Randy McMichael (3 rec, 45 yards) and Drew Bennett (2 rec, 32 yards) each caught a TD pass.  The Rams finished up with 123 yards rushing on 23 carries (5.3 ypc) and they also completed 24 of 43 passes for 252 yards.

The defense didn’t play too well for the Rams but two players were outstanding.  Linebacker Will Witherspoon had 14 tackles and a sack and cornerback Fakhir Brown added 9 tackles and 2 interceptions with inspired efforts.  The Cardinals finished up with 102 yards on 31 carries (3.3 ypc) and they also completed 21 of 41 passes for 281 yards.

The St. Louis Rams to be without WR Isaac Bruce this week

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking News,Front Page,General Rams Chatter,Injury Reports by dawgpounded on Friday 5 October 2007 at 9:38 pm

The Rams will be without Isaac Bruce who has issues with his hamstring on Sunday.  He has caught 15 passes for 203 yards (13.5 avg) so far this season.  Bruce will be replaced in the starting lineup by Drew Bennett.  Bennett has caught 6 passes for 62 yards (10.3 avg) and he hasn’t been 100% yet this season because he’s been banged up.

St. Louis Rams vs. Arizona Cardinals

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Rams Chatter,This Week's Matchup Report by dawgpounded on Friday 5 October 2007 at 5:42 pm
Something has to give in this game as the Cardinals are 0-2 on the road and the Rams are 0-4 overall.  The Rams have played much better at home this season as they have been outscored 44-29 in their 2 losses.  The Cardinals have lost each of their road games by 3 points.

The Cardinals have remade their team in the image of the head coach.  That means they like to run the football and Edgerrin James has bounced back this season (354 yards rushing, 4.4 ypc, 3 TDs) after an off year in 2006.  James figures to have a lot of success against a Rams defense that is allowing 157.0 yards rushing per game and 4.7 yards per carry.  The Cardinals have been switching up the QBs so Matt Leinart will likely start the game and Kurt Warner will play some in the middle.  Warner has been outstanding this season and he will likely want to stick it to his old team.  Look for WR Larry Fitzgerald (26 rec, 315 yards) to have a great game against the Rams this week.

The Rams would be smart to run the football and throw a lot of short passes this week due to the massive injuries they have suffered.  Gus Frerotte will be getting the start at QB behind a makeshift offensive line that has allowed 11 sacks already this season.  For Frerotte to have a chance at success he will need Torry Holt, Drew Bennett and Randy McMichael to catch short passes and get some yards after the catch.  The Rams would also be smart to get rookie RB Brian Leonard a lot of touches to keep the Cardinals linebackers busy so they can’t blitz as often.

PREDICTION:  The Rams just have too many injuries to compete with the Cardinals who are a team on the rise.  Look for the Cardinals to win this game by more than a TD.

Dante Hall has been everything the St. Louis Rams thought he would be

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Rams Chatter by dawgpounded on Friday 5 October 2007 at 12:05 am

KR/PR Dante Hall is one of the only Rams players that hasn’t disappointed so far this season.  He has been outstanding in giving the Rams good starting field position.  He has returned 10 punts for 134 yards (13.4 avg) with an 85-yarder for a TD.  Hall also has returned 16 kickoffs for 398 yards (24.9 avg) including a 84-yarder.  At least Hall is showing some pride while a lot of Rams have looked like they have already quit on the season.
