3. (84) Jonathan Wade, CB

The Rams must have liked Jonathan Wade’s measureables a lot, because he hasn’t been that good of a football player yet in his career.  Wade is 5′9″, 192 pounds and he runs a 4.4 40 so he certainly looks the part.  But, he’s a converted receiver that still has a lot to learn about playing cornerback.  In 49 games (28 starts) at Tennessee, Wade has made 110 tackles, broke up 21 passes, had 6 interceptions (112 return yards), forced a fumble and recovered a fumble.  The Rams feel they can coach Wade up and they better prove to be right because a lot of good football players were on the board when they selected Wade.

2. (52) Brian Leonard, FB/RB

The Rams decided to add a running back/fullback to give Stephen Jackson a break at times and be his lead blocker at other times.  Leonard is a good runner that always pushes the pile and he’s an excellent receiver out of the backfield so he should fit right in on the Rams’ offense.  Leonard has nice size at 6′1″, 224 pounds and he’s fast enough as he runs a 4.55 second  40 yard dash.  In 47 games (45 starts) at Rutgers, Leonard has carried the football 678 times for 2,775 yards (4.1 ypc) with 32 TD runs.  He also caught 207 passes for 1,868 yards (9.0 avg) with 13 TD grabs.  The Rams did good in nabbing probably the best all-around back in this draft in the 2nd round.

1. (13) Adam Carriker, DE

The Rams loaded up in free agency on the offensive side of the football so they were determined to pick the best defensive player on the board in the first round and that was Adam Carriker.  Carriker can play either end or tackle because of his strength at the point of attack.  He also is a solid pass rusher that’s fast enough off of the edge.  He is a good player against the run and pass which is exactly what the Rams need.  He has nice size (6′6″, 296) and he’s fast for his size (4.8 40).  In 45 games at Nebraska (34 starts), Carriker made 134 tackles, had 41 tackles for a loss, 20.5 sacks, batted 6 passes and recovered a fumble.  This was a solid pick for the Rams in the first round.
