The Rams have signed Lenny Walls to a 1-year contract.  He played in 16 games last season and he made 27 tackles and defensed 4 passes for the Kansas City Chiefs.  Look for Walls to compete for a starting spot in the nickel defense and to help out on special teams for the Rams.

Marshall Faulk has officially retired from the NFL.  Faulk had an amazing career that covered 176 games (156 starts).  He carried the ball 2,836 times for 12,279 yards (4.3 ypc) with 100 TD runs.  He also caught 767 passes for 6,875 yards (9.0 avg) with 36 TD catches.  Faulk is one of the best Rams players to every wear the horned helmet.

The Rams sign a couple of free agents for the defense

The Rams have signed linebacker Chris Draft and CB Mike Rumph.  Draft got a three year deal and he was very good for the Carolina Panthers last season.  He played in all 16 games and he made 107 tackles, had 5.5 sacks, defensed 2 passes, forced 2 fumbles and recovered 2 fumbles.  Draft is a playmaker and should be a starter from Day #1 for the Rams and improve their defense.  Rumph got a one year deal to try to save his career.  He’s likely to be a nickel or dime back if he makes the team at all.

The Rams add more firepower on offense as they sign TE Randy McMichael

It should come as no surprise that Scott Linehan has reached into his Miami past for an offensive player to help the Rams.  The Rams drafted Joe Klopfenstein and Dominique Byrd last season and they both disappointed for the Rams, so the Rams went out an got a proven vet to handle the job.  McMichael played in all 16 games for the Miami Dolphins last season and he caught 62 passes for 640 yards (10.3 avg) with 3 TD grabs.  Look for him to improve on those numbers in what’s looking like will be an explosive Rams offense in 2007!

The Rams sign safety Todd Johnson

The Rams have signed safety Todd Johnson to a 4 year contract.  He played in 12 games for the Chicago Bears last season and he made 32 tackles, defensed 2 passes and forced a fumble.  Johnson will get a chance to compete for a starting job but he’ll be productive even if he doesn’t win the job.  He’s a good special teams player and a solid back up.

The Rams sign RB Travis Minor

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Rams Chatter by dawgpounded on Wednesday 7 March 2007 at 10:15 pm

The Rams have signed versatile RB Travis Minor to a 1-year contract.  He played in all 16 games last season for the Miami Dolphins and he carried the ball 19 times for 74 yards (3.9 ypc).  He also caught 3 passes for 2 yards (0.7 avg).  Minor didn’t get to play too much in the offense for the Dolphins last season but he’s a good receiver out of the backfield and he can return kicks.

The Rams re-sign OT Todd Steussie

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking News,Front Page,General Rams Chatter by dawgpounded on Tuesday 6 March 2007 at 8:06 pm

This was a good move for the Rams.  They signed him last season to be a reserve lineman and he started 15 games and played well.  The Rams are again looking at the 36 year old Steussie as a backup, but he’ll definately be ready if needed.

The Rams have signed punter B.J. Sander to compete for the starting job at punter next season.

The Rams sign WR Drew Bennett to a 6 year contract

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking News,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Rams Chatter by dawgpounded on Sunday 4 March 2007 at 5:33 pm

The Rams fortified their receiving corps by adding Drew Bennett to the group.  He’s got great hands and size (6’5″, 206 pounds) for a WR.  Last season Bennett played in 16 games (15 starts) and he caught 46 passes for 737 yards (16.0 avg) with 3 TD grabs.  Look for him to improve on those numbers now that he’s on a passing team with a good throwing QB, unlike last season in Tennessee.

The Rams acquire DE James Hall from the Lions

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking News,Front Page,General Rams Chatter by dawgpounded on Saturday 3 March 2007 at 12:54 am

The Rams traded a fifth round pick in this April’s Draft for DE James Hall.  Hall only played in 7 games last season because of injury, but he still wound up with 24 tackles, 5 sacks and a forced fumble.  For his career, Hall has played in 89 games and he’s made 277 tackles, has 33 sacks, 1 interception, defensed 10 passes, forced 11 fumbles and recovered 6 fumbles (2 of which he returned for TDs).  This was a good move for the Rams as they needed pass rush help and Hall should be able to provide that for them.  A fifth round pick was a small price to pay for someone of Hall’s ability.
