Rams look like new team in 18-10 win over Broncos

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Monday 11 September 2006 at 6:45 pm

Coach Scott Linehan is transforming the Rams into a more complete football team.  The Rams used to win by throwing the ball all over the place and out-scoring the opponent.  The Rams unleashed quite a different look on Sunday on the un-suspecting Broncos.  Marc Bulger completed 18 of 34 passes (52.9%) for 217 yards.  RB Steven Jackson was a beast, carrying the ball 22 times for 121 yards (5.5 ypc) and catching 4 passes for 19 yards (4.8 avg).  WR Torry Holt caught 7 passes for 80 yards (11.4 avg).  Isaac Bruce caught 5 passes for 64 yards (12.8 avg).  Kicker Jeff Wilkins hit 6 field goals in the game that were 24-51 yards in length.

LB Will Witherspoon had 8 tackles.  DE Leonard Little had 2 sacks.  DB Fakhir Brown intercepted a pass and had a sack, Tye Hill and Corey Chavous also picked-off a pass each.  The Rams had trouble stopping the Broncos running game as the Broncos ran the ball 25 times for 161 yards (6.4 ypc).  The Rams played good against the pass as the Broncos only completed 50% of their passes for 98 net yards in the air, and the Rams picked-off 3 Jake Plummer passes.

Broncos vs. Rams

The Broncos will try to run the ball against the Rams until they prove they can stop it.  Mike Bell and Tatum Bell will porbably split carries trying to soften up the defense, and then the Broncos will try to go over the top to Javon Walker and Rod Smith.

The Rams will attempt to be more balanced this season on offense.  Instead of running a spread offense, the Rams will run with double tight-end sets frequently to protect QB Marc Bulger better.  The Broncos pass rush is weak (with all the Cleveland Browns rejects on the line) and Bulger should be able to get the ball to Holt, Bruce and Curtis.

This should be a great game that could go either way.  In games where the match-ups are so even I usually side with the home team.

Scott Linehan

Coach Linehan has never been a NFL head coach, but he’s been an offensive co-ordinator for the Minnesota Vikings from 2002-2004 and was the offensive co-ordinator of the Miami Dolphins last season.  Linehan understands the importance of the keeping his QB healthy, which is something Coach Martz was not good at.

Rams add a couple of offensive players over the weekend

Running back Stephen Davis was signed to back-up Steven Jackson.  Davis has played in 128 games (102 starts) and has rushed for 7,875 yards (4.1 ypc) and 65 TDs.  Davis has also caught 167 passes for 1,404 yards (8.4 avg) and 3 TDs.

The Rams acquired OT Adam Goldberg from the Vikings for an undisclosed draft pick.  Goldberg is 6’7″, 330 pounds and has played in 29 games, 18 of which he has started.

Rams look bad in 29-9 loss to Dolphins

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Friday 1 September 2006 at 9:49 am

Apparently the Rams back-ups didn’t get the memo that there was a game Thursday night in Miami.  The Dolphins out-gained the Rams 379-148 in the game.  Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for 94 yards as he completed 7 of 14 passes.  Dave Ragone was 0 for 7 passing with an interception.

Running back Tony Fisher played hard carrying the ball 9 times for 33 yards (3.7 ypc) and caught 2 passes for 31 yards.

The run defense played good, holding the Fins to 70 yards on 31 carries (2.3 ypc).  The Fins passed all over the Rams secondary, completing 72.2% of their passes for 309 net yards through the air.
