Tye Hill (1,CB)

Tye Hill has tremendous speed (4.3) and no one can run by him.  Now the negatives.  He’s very small (5′9″, 187) and will lose a lot of jump balls as he doesn’t time his jumps too well.  He shows a willingness to support the run, but because of his size….sometimes he gets run over.  Hill also has the hands of a defensive back (not good).

Hill played in 49 games at Clemson (34 starts) and made 149 tackles, broke up 35 passes and had five interceptions.

Hill seems to be a sprinter trying to play football.  He might be a starter someday, but he has the look of a nickle back.

Rams talking to Titans

The Rams are talking to the Titans about disgruntled running back Chris Brown.  The Rams need another back because of the possible end of Marshall Faulk’s career due to multiple injuries.  It will be interesting to see if the Rams acquire Brown how they’ll utilize him.  Browns’ strength is running the ball not catching it.  So would Brown be competing with Steven Jackson for the starting job?  Interesting.

Rams are deep at QB

Marc Bulger is very effective when he plays, but Coach Martz used to have everyone going out for passes and no one blocking which has gotten Bulger pummeled as of late.  Bulger has a very quick release, which he had to develop with no blockers in front of him.  New head coach Scott Linehan will have more guys blocking to help Bulger show off his right arm.  In 44 games (all starts) he has completed 65.0% of his passed for 11,932 yards with 71 career TD passes and 51 interceptions for a QB rating of 90.6.

Gus Frerotte has been following Scott Linehan around for awhile, first in Minnesota, then Miami and now St. Louis.  Linehan knew that Bulger gets beat up and only started 8 games last season, so he called up his old buddy Gus and invited him to town.  Frerotte has played in 127 games (79 starts) and has thrown for 18,093 yards with 95 TD passes and 79 interceptions for a career rating of 75.3.  Frerotte is a very good back-up QB that would be able to run the offense without much of a drop-off.

Ryan Fitzpatrick out of Harvard looks to be the #3 QB for the Rams.  FItzpatrick was forced into duty four times last season (3 starts) and completed 56.3% of his passes for 777 yards with 4 TD passes and 8 interceptions for a QB rating of 58.2.  To be fair, Fitzpatrick was a rookie from Harvard.  Harvard to the Pros is quite a jump, so the thought is that he will improve with experience.
